In honor of our exhibition Golden Veins: The Art of Kintsugi and Transformation, Alison Bradley Projects is delighted to partner with master kintsugi artist Yuko Gunji for two special workshops, on January 11th and 12th, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Each event includes an introduction to the history of kintsugi by Gunji, followed by a hands-on woskshop of "modern kintsugi." Guests will bring a broken object and be guided in the kintsugi process, culminating in a mended artwork. Hosted in our penthouse event space at 526 W 26th Street, refreshments of matcha and wagashi (traditional Japanese confectionery) made by Phoebe Ogawa will be served.
Modern Kintsugi is a recent technique designed for those seeking a quicker Kintsugi experience. Unlike traditional Kintsugi, it utilizes food-safe epoxy, eliminating the risk of skin irritation and allowing completion in just a few hours. Gunji recommends traditional Kintsugi for those wanting an authentic learning experience and modern Kintsugi for those seeking a swift and easy introduction.
