Join artist Tamiko Kawata for a hands-on workshop in which participants will create linked safety pin chains for her upcoming site-specific installation at Alison Bradley Projects, opening November 20th, 2025.
Working collectively, attendees will contribute to the construction of Kawata’s monumental work—a shimmering network of interconnection and care made from thousands of safety pins. Through this shared act of making, the workshop invites reflection on themes of community, resilience, and the strength found in small, everyday gestures.
The project involves assembling components made from safety pins, an accessible and hands-on process that would allow participants to contribute to a larger professional artwork and gain insight into the behind-the-scenes of installation production. Experience working with your hands, installation, fabrication, general art classes or an interest in metal work are desirable, but workshops are open to all skill levels.
